Abe's friend Kenny and his wife Sherry have spent several years in South Korea so they know a thing or two about the area. Before we arrived, Kenny took Abe on a lot of hikes. This was DanFam5's first hike. It had rained the week before so they decided to take us up Guryongsan Mountain on a road hike because the ground beneath the trees gets muddy and slippery.
Don't be fooled. It was a road, but it was about an hour and a half of very steep hill climbing. This little pit stop was about half way up.
Very ornate stone carvings.
You see these little stone pyramid things all over the hills. There is no mortar holding them together, just good stacking.
The doggies enjoyed the hike. We learned that Chuey likes to be first in the hiking line. And she goes the entire time. You would think those little legs would get tired but she just keeps rushing to be first.
Remember I said it was steep? We were taking little break. The road was curvy and winding; Kenny kept saying, "The end is right after this curve...oops. I guess it's the next curve." The kids were not amused with his feaux pas.
Finally we made it to the top! Not only was there a temple up there, but a parking lot. Daisy set eyes on the lot and proclaimed through her shortness of breath, "You mean we could have DRIVEN up here??!"
Guryongsa Temple
More pretty flowers. Over the next few years I will be posting a lot of flower pictures because they are everywhere and so beautiful.
Such attention to detail.
My biggy-boo found himself a stick. Surprise, surprise.
On the trip down we could hear men chanting/singing. I was in awe when I thought it was happening in real time. Kenny thought it was probably recorded and played for temple time. It was still neat how it echoed down through the hills.
The kids did not enjoy their first hike, but at least they had fun running across these pillars.
