SoKo is beginning a new phase called 'Living With Covid' by slowly opening up more activities and festivals. So we jumped on the chance to attend the Thousand Years Cultural Heritage Night.
The sun was setting as we were driving there. The mountains sure do make a nice backdrop.
[November 13]The festival took place at Samcheonpo Bridge Park.
"All troops, go out!" The General deployment ceremony kicked off the excitement with the Supreme Commander's Parade. A 'historical story tour' was given as these groups dressed in Joseon navy attire marched in whilst playing their marching music. Of course we could not understand a word the historical story tour.
The General rode in on his horsey between the groups.
"With God! With the General!"
We also observed a fire-twirling entertainer.
This atttraction was translated as 'suspicious clowns.' Haha! I found out the official name is the Five Clown Mask Dance.
오광대 Obangdae is a mask performance divided into five main parts; the first two acts wish for peace and happiness and health, with the latter three criticizing the aristocrats and political corruption. The Obangdae has been a part of tradition and celebrations for roughly one hundred years.
