Each year the Fort Worth Parade of Lights kicks off the holiday season with over 100 lighted floats, many marching bands, sparkling antique cars, horses and horse-drawn carriages, and carolers spreading Christmas cheer. Our band was fortunate to be part of the Christmas cheer-spreaders this year.
The cheerleaders were invited as well.
I got to tag along and carry the banner with Mary, another band mom.
Grouping up for pre-parade info dissemination.
We were there about an hour and a half early.
We were inching closer to go time.
Daisy got the short straw and was asked to carry our group sign and wear the official lighted vest.
We were slowly getting closer and closer.
As we were about to enter the queue, the parade officials gave Daisy an even bigger sign to wear.
Finally we made it into the parade!
Look who came to watch.
At the end the bands all veered off to get back to the buses. We broke down into a single-file line as we snaked our way through the crowded maze of bus-lined streets. Ms. Hinds was at the front and the percussion was at the back as they kept playing the cadence. She kept saying they could stop playing, but her voice didn't carry above the beat of the drums all the way to the back of the line. They just kept playing and playing and the kids kept marching and marching. It was like that scene from Animal House where the band marches right into the wall.Percussion finally heard the message and quit playing before the whole band marched into a wall. Then they sang as they were walking.
