For the third day in a row I went to see more cherry blossoms. However, this time I went with two cars full of friends. Only four to a car because, Covid.
Hwagae is famous for its Cherry Blossom Festival. It was not happening this year, because, Covid. However, the trees didn't get the memo that we're still in a pandemic. As you get near Hadong, the road side becomes painted with the gorgeous white blossoms.
Once you arrive in the village of Hwagae right outside of Hadong, the streets become full of cars, the sidewalks full of people, and the sky full of blossoms. It is truly amazing.
The road connecting the local market to a temple is called Simni (10ri) Road because simni means 4 kilometers, and that is the distance between the two destinations. Around 600 years ago someone had the foresight to line the road with all of these beautiful trees. It's too bad they aren't still around to see how breathtaking it still is.
Simni Road is also referred to as 'Wedding Road.' It is believed that if a couple walks down this road hand in hand under the cherry blossoms that love will come true.
