Cherry Blossoms and Bluebonnets

I called it taking our fake bluebonnet pictures because cherry blossoms are the Korean equivalent of Texas bluebonnets in more ways than one. 

1) Like bluebonnets, cherry blossoms not only bring color to the landscape, but they bring joy to the people because their presence indicates that spring has in fact arrived.

2) The next similarity is that everyone storms the best places with the most blossoms in search of that elusive perfect picture. Just like in Texas, people pull over their cars in the oddest and sometimes quite unsafe places, including along the edge of busy roads, or sometimes even in the road.

I parked my car off of a side road, but I did make my children stand in the middle of the road. Not a big deal, except that it was slightly busy due to the blossoms, and Daisy is not too quick on those crutches. Not to worry, I made it home with all three kids as well as both dogs.

3) Although both flowers are beautiful, it is difficult to get the perfect shot. Just like in Texas, it took us two trips. The first was right at the beginning of the peak time. We went to the Sacheon Fortress, but it's on a hill and Daisy was not able to maneuver that terrain with her full leg cast.

We tried it again a week later. We headed to the Fortress, but due to Covid-19 the parking lot was blocked off to keep large groups of people out. We saw a lot of blooms at the end of this little path so we checked it out.

The trees ended up being further away than I thought for poor Daisy. I told her to stay there while we walked to the end to see if it was worth the difficult trek for her. Minutes after I walked on she started screaming. "Aaahh! Bee!  Bee!" Somehow drama and this girl go hand-in-hand.

The cherry blossoms down this lane were not what we were hoping for so I had the boys pose by this building instead.

4) Finally, cherry blossoms, like bluebonnets, spring up suddenly, paint the countryside a glorious color for a few weeks, and as quickly as they came they disappear. However, cherry blossoms leave a momento of their fleeting glory on the ground.
