GIFS hosts a recongnition ceremony each 9 weeks for the elementary kids. First they recognized those students who have earned perfect attendance. Lijee was one of the many who received a certificate.
GIFS is in the process of implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme along with the Middle School Programme. It sounds similar to the applied learning program, which is what we just came from in the US. This is how the website explains it:
Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, the PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.
Our elementary learners are encouraged to be inquirers, knowledgable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. This quarter the awards were given for students displaying exceptional caring and communication. My Lijee was chosen as a student who consistently shows good communication skills!
At the ceremony the 3rd and 4th graders also performed a song for us.

SKAC facilitated a STEM fair competition this fall right around the same time. The same schools that we play sports with attended. The elementary competition was hosted at GIFS so I got to stop by and peek in. Eli was doing something with students from other schools.
The students used only recycled stuff brought in from home. Eli made a helicopter with spinning blades.

The 7th and 8th graders attended the competition too at a different school. Zeke and his partner got 3rd place! Their project was how temperature effects magnets.
I'm so proud of my boys and their hard work!
