It Don't Mean A Thing

Acclaim performed a super cute medley at the "Colors Of Swing" live big band concert at church.  This time, however, they danced as they sang to several 50s songs, including It Don't Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing. They did a phenomenal job! Who knew our Zekers could swing dance?
Much love from the sibs after the show.
Always glad to have Grannie in the audience.
So much fun watching this boy hone his fine arts skills.

He's With The Band

Zekers had a spring concert for Beginning Band. He played the bass drum, marimba,  and triangle.
He also had a Solo and Ensemble contest. Zeke forgot his music to the contest. To be fair, as a percussionist he didn't need to bring his instrument because he played the marimba, which is too big to transport so the kids used what was there. Therefore in his mind he didn't need to bring anything. He told the judge he forgot his music but he had it memorized. I thought for sure he would not get a good score, even if he played well because the judge was supposed to have a copy of the music. Darned if that boy didn't walk away with a gold medal!
Several of the kids received gold and silver medals.
As a group they also competed and they scored all Ones. Zeke played snare, bass and xylophone this time.
At the end of the year Zeke auditioned for the symphonic band for next year and made the cut.
I would say a pretty good first year of band!

Award-Winning 'Beche'

My little boy is a poet! Lijee won honorable mention in his class poetry competition for his poem 'Beche.' (That's 'Beach' for all of you non-phonetic spellers out there).
His teacher's mother is a poet who enters competitions and I think she has won a few, so she is the unbiased judge. Here she is explaining to the class what is was that she liked about his poem.
She liked the way he explained the waves by using his senses without actually saying the word .
Grannie wouldn't have dreamed of missing his poetry reading.
His teacher displayed the poems afterwards.
 Beche

you wish you could
live there but its hard

when you come agin

I'm so proud of my Lijee! By the way, we are taking a beach trip this summer.

Father Son Retreat

My boys had their annual Father Son weekend away at Sky Ranch.
As always, I do not get a whole lot of information, but at least Abe did take a few pictures.
Both boys climbed the vertical playground.
Zekers made it all the way to the top.
 They played laser tag.
 There was some swimming involved.
There was also ice cream and a bouncy pillow.
Meanwhile, back in the Fort, Daisy and I decorated for the school auction.
After they got home they still wanted to be together. >3

Spend Awhile On The Nile

This was Daisy's last year of MusicPraiseand Lijee's first (and perhaps only??). It was fun that Daisy, Lijee and I got to share it together.
The year culminated in the musical Spend Awhile On The Nile.
How sweet are these two?
Daisy earned a spot on the dance team.
Lijee did great in the choir.
The Peanut Gallery. Grannie is a staple for their performances. This time she brought along her friend Jim.
It's hard to get this little guy to smile for the camera, but gosh, when he does it sure is cute!
I love watching my little people perform, but even more than that I love serving along beside them.
