Snibery

/snibe•er•ee/  v. : using the promise of snow activities as bribery

Monday and Tuesday we had ice days this week and on Wednesday we had a 2 hour delay.  Monday was a legit ice day, but Tuesday and Wednesday had clear roads. Today we had real snow; not the white stuff that is really sleet that FW usually gets and we call snow, but honest to goodness snow. For hours. And this is the day the administration decides we need to stay at school?
I was at school and drove home at 9:30.  The 18 minute trip took one hour and 15 minutes.  Cars and trucks were spinning out everywhere, causing backups.  At one point we were trapped on the road, just waiting for somebody to move. Eventually we made it home, just to let the dogs in and turn around to go back to get the bigs. Another hour trip to make it back to school, and by then the official word was that school was not dismissed early but parents could pick their children up early.

Believe it or not, my kids did not want me to take them out early. It took us another hour to get home, during which time I bribed them with the promise of wonderful snow activities. My arsenal consisted of snow play,
snow angels,
 snow ice cream,
with a surprise of a coke slushee,
ice cream cone cup cakes
and snuggling with a movie.
I think they finally decided an early dismissal was alright.
Thankful to be safely home in a warm house
with the people I love.
