Down Came the Rain and Washed the Spiders Out
"The spiders are gone," Zeke told me one morning. "What spiders?" I asked. "The ones in the tunnel." "O.K." I responded. Whatever. Then he said, "We can go in the tunnels now." Ohhh. Now I was getting it, but asked why, just to see what he would say. "It rained last night so all the spiders are gone. Now we can go through the tunnels." The week before we had taken a walk and looked through 2 tunnels that went under the road. He had wanted to crawl through to the other side but I said there were spiders in there so I didn't want to do it. The rain washes the Itsy Bitsy Spider out, so obviously it washed out whatever spiders Mommy said were in the tunnels. That boy has a steel trap, I tell you. Even though he had logical reasoning, clearly I wasn't going to crawl through there. We talked Daddy into it. Once Zekers was actually doing it, he was a bit scared and couldn't decide if it was better to have his Pops behind him or in front of him. So he just tried to be on top of him, in the tunnel. It isn't that big of a tunnel, folks, in case you're trying to get a mental image going.
The moral of the story: make my excuses darn good ones because he'll remember and hold me to them.

The Truth Hurts
Zeke and I were outside when it started sprinkling. I busted out with, "Singing in the rain. Just singing in the rain." Seemed appropriate at the time, until he told me, "No, don't sing in the rain." Ouch. However, Ezekiel showed a bit more tact than his little sister. Here is how Daisy responded to my singing:

Words of Wisdom...from a 3 year old
Zeke was going outside and left the door open, which Daisy naturally exited as quickly as she could crawl. I wisked her up and said she couldn't go outside today because it was muddy and she would get all dirty crawling through it. Then I opened the window so they could talk through the screen. That's when Ezekiel informed me with all the wisdom of a 3 year old, "Sometimes kids get muddy, Mom."
